Main information
TPN Nature Education Centre in Zakopane
Inside you will find a 4D cinema, the largest model of the Tatra Mountains in Poland, a discovery room, a shop with unique mountain gadgets and publications, as well as many other attractions.
Educational walk through the centre takes about an hour. The first point is the largest model of the Tatra Mountains in Poland with the presentation displayed on it. The next step includes very realistic dioramas, i.e. three-dimensional mock-ups depicting meadow and forest, as well as human impact on the Tatra ecosystems. The exhibition is complemented by nature films, which show Tatra Mountains from the perspective of their wild inhabitants.
During the walk, you can also pop into the cave. It is very similar to the real one, including low temperature and seeping water.
Inside, you can hear about what is happening in the Tatra underground.
There is also a discovery room with computer games and videos for children. Whoever is interested in discovering and observing elements of nature can use the interactive tables. The room is also equipped with stereoscopic stands offering three-dimensional photographs of nature.
The Wawel Royal Castle
The Wawel Royal Castle and the Wawel Hill constitute the most historically and culturally important site in Poland. For centuries the residence of kings and the symbol of Polish statehood, the castle is now one of the country’s premier art museums. Established in 1930, the museum encompasses ten curatorial departments responsible for collections of paintings, including an important collection of Italian Renaissance paintings; works on paper; sculpture; textiles, among them the Sigismund II Augustus tapestry collection; goldsmith’s work; arms and armor; ceramics, with significant holdings of Meissen porcelain; and period furniture. The museum’s holdings in Asian and Middle-Eastern art include the largest collection of Ottoman tents in Europe. For conservation reasons the tents are not on permanent display. The collections of the Wawel Royal Castle are presented in several permanent exhibitions that evoke the historic appearance of the royal residence in the 16th, 17th, and 18th centuries.
