During the Eighth Summit of the Three Seas Initiative, which took place in September this year in Bucharest, Greece joined the initiative. This is a very important step for the Initiative, because thanks to Greece’s location it will be possible to develop transport with the Mediterranean basin.
Greece, on whose territory some of the transport routes of the projects presented under the TSI end, is closing its area from the south in terms of infrastructure. The Via Carpatia route from Lithuania’s Klaipėda is to end in Thessaloniki, while Greek LNG terminals, including those in Alexandroupoli, will enable more effective diversification of sources of this raw material thanks to the expansion of gas connections on the north-south axis. The geographical proximity of Asia and Africa also opens new opportunities for the Three Seas Initiative countries in the context of cooperation with Greek ports. Greece’s joining the Initiative also strengthens the position of TSI on the European forum.
